Chapter 23

Jeffy was curious about what was outside the darkened door. He imagined strange creatures guarding the door or perhaps the tall, gray aliens that he first saw while on the mountaintop. He was also bored. He wanted to get active instead of sitting in this small, sparse room. It was shortly after a few yawns and stretches that the door began to lighten and become transparent. This was the first time for Jeffy to see what actually existed beyond the door; and he was startled.

He became face-to-face with a huge glob-like creature with tentacles hanging from its head. They were swinging around as if they were trying to smell the occupants inside the humans’ cell. Jeffy fell backwards in shock, as did the creature. It began to turn in circles round and round while pulling at the strange, bulbous knobs on each side of its head. The screech from it was horrendous.

Jeff grabbed his son and pulled him close as Marvin tried to press buttons to darken the doorway. Suddenly, a tall gray alien came to their aid while the screeching, twirling creature was quickly ushered back into its cell. Blip’s arrival was extremely welcomed by the humans but was not so for the tall gray. In a soft yet stern mental voice, Blip explained to the humans that the other passengers or visitors were also here on Redor for planetary business as were they. It was expected they would conduct themselves as guests. They were not at liberty to horrify or enrage other beings as what just happened with the Sming guests.

Blip then looked toward Jeffy, who was still clinging to his father. “Now, young earthling, you were an illegal traveler upon our ship. You are also illegal here on Redor. You must behave or you will be placed in sleep mode until your return to Earth. It is understood that you are young and very curious. With this, I will arrange for you to have a ship mate of your own age to escort you from one place to another, when the time is right, but you will be under our control at all times.”

Blip then stood and turned toward the door. He stopped and looked at the three humans. “I understand this is frightening to you. I remember the first time I saw a human, or for that matter a Sming. I behaved very similar to you. Follow the space rules and you will survive.” Blip then silently glided through the entrance and darkened the door.

A calming mood spread over the humans and they lay down on the provided beds. Sleep came quickly. When they awoke, they were once again being viewed by Smings. Several other strange beings outside their quarters were staring at them. Jeff calmly told his companions to remain calm as though this was a normal, everyday happening.

Jeffy sat up and stared back at the beings. He realized his spacesuit as well as Marvin’s and his dad’s had disappeared and they lay in natural nakedness, except for a very thin white tunic that covered them.
